We had a wonderful second week of First Grade! We are spending time learning about our classroom community, getting to know each other, and how our behavior impacts those around us.
Here are some of the things that we did and learned about:
Various lessons on social cognition including: “Thinking Thoughts and Feeling Feelings”, “The Group Plan”, “Thinking With Your Eyes”, and “Body in the Group”
“Mystery Counting Bags”, “Build It”, and “Popcorn Memory” math activities
Learned about and practiced using the correct pencil grip - ask your child about the special song that goes along with it! And practiced writing our names with crayon and watercolor paints
Practiced doing a fire drill
Began our Monarch Butterfly unit - THANK YOU to anyone who has time to help us look for monarch caterpillars! We also painted some milkweed as the first step of a project
Read the story Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes and discussed how our actions have a big impact on others and their feelings
Introduced a new popcorn math memory game. It is being sent home with all students today, so be on the lookout!
Below is the schedule for first-grade specials. Please remember to send your student to school with appropriate shoes on their P.E. days and their borrowed books on Library days.
