Highlights From Our First Week Back!

Week March 8, 2023

We had a wonderful first week back at school after the winter break.  It was a short week but we packed in a lot!  We didn’t remember to take too many photos but we will share what we have!  We began the day Wednesday morning with a school-wide dance party to celebrate that RES raised over $5,000 for the American Heart Association!  Well done RES!

We had our first lesson with Ms. Spaulding about our bodies and keeping them safe. The students listened to a great book that celebrates all different kinds of bodies, and they learned about private parts of bodies that others shouldn’t be seeing or touching.

During reading workshop we continued our focus on nonfiction texts by learning about Women’s History Month.  We learned a new W.O.W. (word of the week) to kick this off: aspire.  We read a great book called My Name is Not Isabella and met a character whol aspired to be many different famous women because of what they have accomplished in their lives.  We read a little about some of these important women and this will continue into next week.

We spent our writing workshop time on Wednesday writing about our vacation weeks and what we enjoyed doing.  Some of us enjoyed extra reading time, others walked on beaches and looked for shells, while for some the best part was sleeping in!  It was fun to read these pieces of writing!

We started a new unit in math which began with a review and practice of the partners to ten facts with some fun games.  Having the solid base of the partners to 10 facts will help us as we begin learning our partners to 20 facts.

And of course, we were treated to one last visit to Cochran’s!  It was a beautiful, sunny day to enjoy our last day of skiing.
