Highlights from the Week of March 27, 2023

Week of March 27, 2023

First graders have been hard at work this week finishing up their animal research, writing, and related projects. We are so excited to invite our families in and share all of this amazing work!
During Math this week we focused on the concept of balanced equations. Students had to figure out if an equation was balanced and “true”, or not balanced and “false”. We continue to work on reading the equal sign as “the same as” instead of just “equals”. For some of our equations, students had to add a missing number to make the equation true or balanced.

Our W.O.W. this week was camouflage. We read some fascinating books about camouflage in the animal kingdom and how it is a very important feature for many creatures, both prey, and predator!
During Word Study, we learned that one way to spell the long /a/ sound is with the “magic” or silent e spelling pattern. We also learned three new power words: her, here, and look. We continue to work on handwriting and proper letter formation.

IMPORTANT REMINDER!
A special invitation was sent out earlier this week inviting you all to join us Friday, April 7 from 8:30-9:00 for a celebration of all of the hard work and learning that your children have done during this big nonfiction writing unit. We hope to see you all!
